Will and Desire

When was your last intentional personal stretch?

For me, it’s been working on my Pilates Classical certification for the past 1.5 years. I didn’t fully plan on it. It sort of unfolded through a series of events that I said yes to. I saw what was possible, and I went for it!

As someone over 50, I have been asked, “Are you too old for this?” And my reply is enthusiastically no! I have people in my cohort who are over 60 and 70 years old, and we are fired up. What is our common denominator? Will and desire.

It’s fascinating how others project their limiting beliefs and fears on you. Sure, they may not be consciously assigning their feelings on to your life. It may sound like they have your best interest in mind. I am not saying they don’t. But, just know, they are stuck in a limiting belief and projecting it on you.

“The only limitations are self-imposed ones, also known as under indexing.”

If there is a will, there is a way (will + desire). These are skills that can’t be taught. I can’t teach you will and desire. You either choose to have the will and desire, or not.

This has probably been the hardest for me to swallow. When I was younger, I would push this on people, which left me confused and incredibly frustrated.

Think about it. Will and desire play into everything. Family, relationships, work, and lifestyle choices. Even our heavenly creator.

Life as a teen was difficult for me. What I didn’t understand was this intentional thinking would bring out the best in me. Not always the best choices but the will and desire to overcome. Which can happen at any age.

I used to get frustrated when other people didn’t have the will or desire to keep going or follow through. Choosing is an “active choice.” It is not easy. It is a daily practice. It’s a daily practice of being aware that we create our life in every moment. Will and desire inform our choices, and it is the small decisions we make throughout our day that make or break us.

Sure, we will experience being uncomfortable, question ourselves, and wonder if we are doing the right thing. We are human, after all. By the grace of God, we get to keep going.

Did you know the key to success is exercise? Discipline is what fortifies the other areas of our life.

I am not new to movement or exercise, as I have done some hard-core stuff. Running, spinning, orange theory, boot camps that involve flipping semi-truck tires and pushing weighted sleds, working out with firemen, and being sore for days on end. All of it has helped me physically, mentally and emotionally.

You can be in the best shape of your life at any age. It’s all about “will and desire.”

Pilates can give you more flexibility and improve your balance and your core as you reconnect with your body as God has intended.

I choose this stretch not only to support my mind and body but to uplevel my life and make myself a better Beauty Transformation Coach.
