Let’s not sweep things under the rug. For most of us, our world has been flipped upside down, stretched, uncomfortable, feels foreign and looks a lot different than 2019.
Spring 2001 pre-911 in America. Like many people, I had never experienced terrorism first-hand. I had only seen it in the movies and heard from friends who lived outside of the states or in the military.
I will never forget the moment. I was sitting inside Heathrow airport in London. The computer systems crashed. My girlfriend, having been in the military, quickly became alarmed because she understood what could be going on. I was clueless. I had no way to measure it.
When Facebook and Instagram went down in early October, it caused a lot of anxiety for many people. It also opened up doors to allow new ways of thinking.
I remember a time when we didn\’t have cell phones, couldn’t be tracked and had to develop film to see the pictures from our camera – hoping they were good.
When disaster strikes in your life, what is the first conclusion you come to? What stories do you tell yourself? Do you need to make an immediate decision to fix it? Or do you give yourself time to filter your choice-making and determine what matters to you most? How do you cope amidst chaos?
Self-Sabotage can look similar to Self-Care. Oh, I’m going to just have one drink, eat the one chocolate bar, skip working out one day because I don’t feel like it. We don’t realize that if we put our feelings first – instead of staying committed to the vision of who you want to be – we get into a pattern of waiting to feel like it. Before realizing it, our habits have shifted and we’re back to square one. It takes commitment to embody and embrace the life we want to live.
Imagine you are the author of your life. Because you are. What do you envision? How do you want to feel? What do you value most and why?
How would the people around you change?
What would this look like for you?
There’s a lot to feel uncomfortable about in our world today. Allow the tension and turmoil to be the catalyst for growth, insight and expansion. It all starts with you.
The first step is awareness. Examine your heart to learn what’s ego and what’s authentic. Once you are aware, you get to practice this awareness. As you keep practicing awareness, simultaneously you get to step into consistency. Consistency builds resilience.
