How to Build a Resilient Lifestyle

If you could go back in your life, what age would you want to be and why? Would you want to keep your current knowledge of the golden nuggets you’ve collected along the way? If so, how would you use these teachings or lessons?

In building a resilient life, we need to know what works for us and what doesn’t. We also need to understand why it worked or why it didn’t work. We need to milk our past for all the wisdom it affords us. Like when I realized I was operating from a mindset of scarcity because I asked myself why I owned stacks and stacks of 35” inseam pants.

Personal development and self-awareness are essential building blocks in building a resilient life. You get there by laying a foundation of healthy habits and routines. How can you build something without a strong foundation?

How are you going to become the best version of yourself, if you are not aware – curious about why you avoid things, or need to be perfect, or never finish what you started?

How are you going to become the best version of yourself if you won’t be vulnerable with yourself? Maybe you don’t have the answer and maybe that’s okay because it’s not always up to you.

How are you going to become the best version of yourself if you are stuck in “trying” versus “practicing”? Like trying to play the violin instead of practicing to play the violin. In trying, you either succeed or fail. In practice, you learn and grow.

Take etiquette, for example. Etiquette requires practice. It’s programming, a belief system. It guides our behaviors and manners. It reveals to others whether we’re respectful, kind or patient. It reveals our beauty. And it’s something we practice until it becomes second nature and then we still continue to practice.

Becoming the best version of ourselves requires practice, too. Sometimes we have to reprogram our belief system so we’re not operating from someone else’s playbook.

When we understand ourselves better, we understand why we make the choices we do. When we understand the choices we make, we can shift, tweak, adjust and practice.

When you change the way you look at things, things change around you.

Knowing what you now know, from the nuggets you’ve collected along the way, what has worked for you and what has not?

This is the first step to building a resilient life. It starts with our mindset.

I would love to hear what is coming up for you…
